Tiverton Real Estate and Homes for Sale
As a real estate agent who specializes in Tiverton, let me be your guide to what Tiverton Ontario has to offer as a neighbourhood to finding homes for sale in the area.
The village of Tiverton is located in the Municipality of Kincardine near the shore of Lake Huron on Highway 21 between Port Elgin and Kincardine. Originally known as St. Andrews, the name was changed in 1860 by Canada Post because there was already a town of the same name in Nova Scotia.
Today Tiverton has a population of 850 residents, which has increased in recent years because of its proximity to Bruce Nuclear Power Development. “Huron Wind”, Ontario’s first commercial wind farm, is also located near Tiverton. The wind farm consists of five 1.8-megawatt turbines, each standing 117 metres tall, and in 2008 generated enough electricity to power more than 2000 homes.
Inverhuron Provincial Park is just west of Tiverton on the shores of Lake Huron. Inverhuron has one of the best beaches in the area and is a great place to bring the family for a picnic or a day of swimming. A popular location for campers, the park also offers boat ramps, canoeing, fishing, and hiking and biking trails, making it the perfect spot for the active sportsman. Inverhuron is also home to wetlands and a young hardwood forest and serves as a sanctuary for rare plants.
Local agriculture continues to play an important part of Tiverton’s economy. The area is home to some of Ontario’s richest croplands and the cattle industry remains active. In keeping with this agricultural history, a traditional fall fair takes place each year, put on by numerous volunteers from the community.
Whether you’re looking for a single family bungalow, a historic brick home or a lot on which to build the house of your dreams, Tiverton offers a friendly small town feeling and is perfect for both young families and retirement living.
